HOW WE OVERCAME THE H1N1 CRISES
IPC Correspondent
June 2010

SINGAPORE. 2009 was a nightmarish year for most companies in Singapore having to grapple with the economic crises compounded with the threat of H1N1 crises in tow. At IPC, we were quick to react to both situations.

While both the issues had to be tackled separately, we had to address the concerns of the schools and as well as the parents of the students by setting up a dedicated hotline to update them on the latest about their children/charges already on the trips.

A H1N1 Epidemic Committee was created specifically to liaise with anxious parents and teachers. Additionally, we conducted daily briefings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the alert ratings.  Many schools also decided to postpone their Educational Tours even though we had already contracted the airlines, hotels and coach companies and paid them in advance.

We refunded the deposits paid by the schools without imposing any penalties or cancellation charges whatsoever. This move was to reassure schools that we have their best interests at heart  and that we understand their predicament. These moves not only reassured schools and parents, but also portrayed IPC as an organization dedicated to ensuring the safety and well being of  students under its care.

IPC EDU FAIR 2009

IPC held its first ever Educational Discovery Fair at the Intercontinental Hotel.

A host of participants took part in the 1 day event targeted at schools. One literally had to wade through a sea of people who attended with  participants coming from various countries including Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Malaysia, each vying for the attention of the teachers and principals who were invited as special guests.

They also got the opportunity to mingle with the various Tourist Organizations that were present. Besides this, all invitees were treated to cultural performances from China, Vietnam and Malaysia while Refreshments and Finger food was served. All  who attended commented that they thoroughly enjoyed the spectacular show that IPC had put up, adding that they’ll be back in force, should IPC decide on hosting another Edu Fair in 2010.

EXCITING NEW MENUS

While we keep reviewing the destinations and Community Involvement Projects for our School Education Discovery tours, we’ve also been paying special attention to the meals that we serve to students. Noting that children are fussy eaters and are prone to avoid eating vegetables, IPC’s Gourmet/Beverage  Department together with chefs from the various resorts have been fine-tuning the menu served and coming out with several creative dishes. Notable additions to the meals are sweet and sour tasty chicken sausages with cube potato and sarawak pineapple, fish fillet in satay sauce and pop corn chicken. Additionally to ensure that they maintain the recommended 2 vegetables and 2 fruits regimen, shredded spinach rice  has also made it to the list. This is in line with IPC’s policy of ensuring that students adhere to well-balanced meals while on the trips.
